Title: Big Anime Suggestions
Description: A topic to ponder on.
ProfWeasel - February 6, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
Well we are looking into scheduling another Big Anime Night and we need ideas of what to show. We are looking for either movies or short OVAs(under 2 hours total runtime).
Let the recommending begin!
I'll start with a few:
5cm Per Second - 3 episode romantic drama. ANIMATION IS AWESOME!
Appleseed Ex:Machina - Sequel to 2004 Appleseed
One Piece Movie 8: Adventures in Alabasta
Keisuke - February 7, 2008 06:38 AM (GMT)
well I don't have much right now.....
I was going to suggest Karas but its almost three hours....or Dog Warriors.. but that too is too long XC
Eight Clouds Rising would work i guess....its only 2 episodes for a total of an hour
Spriggan (2 Hours) is a good movie albeit alittle violent.....
or Yu Yu Hakusho Poltergeist Report (1.5 hours) (I'm probably throwing this one up because I've been watching the entire Yu Yu Hakusho series straight through....)XP
One Piece 8 would also work for me though, if these are bad suggestions.
I will continue to think on it......

hellsing ova 4 is about to come out.
mitamaking - February 8, 2008 04:50 PM (GMT)
I second 5 cm but how about One Piece movie 1, seems that would make more sense than 8.
Syaoran - February 8, 2008 09:21 PM (GMT)
Negative on both the one and the eight. The movies one to five don't matter at all. In fact, all of them don't matter. But number six is rockin'. It's by a different writter and artist! I nominate One PIece the Movie 6. It's goo~ooooo~oooood. :)
Syaoran - February 8, 2008 09:26 PM (GMT)
Forgot to put down the others...
Bleach the Movie 4 (I think, the one with the short captain guy as the main character, sort of).
Escaflownae the Movie
and... I don't know. I'll try to think of more.
Ryto - February 8, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
I think that's only the second Bleach movie......
But ummm...suggestion....I'd say any of the One Piece movies really. I've heard that some of the ones not already mentioned were pretty good.
Wait, do these have to be licensed things? I don't remember.
Syaoran - February 8, 2008 10:01 PM (GMT)
It can't be the second, I've got three. Wait. If their not bleach movies, then what are they????!!!!1
Ryto - February 8, 2008 10:26 PM (GMT)
I don't know, but I'm 99% sure that only two exist.
There are four Naruto movies...O.o
Keisuke - February 8, 2008 11:14 PM (GMT)
Yes the one you are talking about sounds like the second movie: The Diamond Dust Rebellion
It sort of stars Hitsugaya Toushirou (The little white haired, 10th Division Captain) ....
there are only 2 bleach movies this one and the first one "Memories of Nobody"
ProfWeasel - February 9, 2008 12:09 AM (GMT)
Unfortunately we are kind of restricted to legit releases for this. During the meetings it doesn't much matter but doing something open to the whole world it is good to keep it on the up and up.
One Piece movie 8 is the first one that is being released over here. Comes out February 17th or something like that. No other reason I suggested that one over others. Besides it recaps a solid story arc.
Ryto - February 9, 2008 12:32 AM (GMT)
And it's got the good voices. XD
Hmmmm.....there's always the first Naruto movie. o.o
fightingcomet - February 12, 2008 02:46 AM (GMT)
...Am I allowed to suggest things? <___<;;
The Cowboy Bebop Movie is pretty good...it's about 2 hours long. A bit bloody, but pretty cool all the same.
I TOTALLY THINK WE SHOULD WATCH POKEMON MOVIES
What about The Place Promised in Our Early Days? I've kinda been wanting to see that...
That's all I can really think of right now...I'm interested in all the other suggesstions too. We need a week of anime watching. XD <3
mitamaking - February 15, 2008 04:27 AM (GMT)
Upon seeing 5 cm, I take away my vote for it and move it to Naruto 1, I have wanted to see it dubbed anyway.
Also how about Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scrolls(always wanted to see it)
FireSpiritSong - August 4, 2008 01:45 AM (GMT)
Maybe the movie Akira? It's kinda weird, but pretty interesting.
mitamaking - August 4, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
I say we see Project A-ko, the 4 movies are really fun.
ProfWeasel - August 11, 2008 04:50 PM (GMT)
Just got back from Otakon and I have a couple that we will need to take a look at when they are released.
The Girl who Leapt Through Time
and
Sword of a Stranger
Both of these looked like good possibilities.
Shiya - August 11, 2008 05:47 PM (GMT)
I heard excessively good things about The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. =o
ProfWeasel - August 11, 2008 06:30 PM (GMT)
I was there and it was most excellent. No street date for release as of yet.. :(

Interesting.
Speaking of anime suggestions, how does that work? Do y'all show fansubs, stuff that's for sale, or what?
ProfWeasel - August 12, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
As a rule we try to stick with legit stuff when possible. On occasion we do indulge in a fansub or two.
When showing a fansub, follow the three golden rules:
1) Never show a fansub if it has a legit release.
2) Only show a fansubs of unlicensed properties.
3) Exceptions are made on a case by case basis.

I came here to suggest this one, so I will just second it. We showed the first Appleseed movie at ASC a few years ago when it first came out, and I think this will be a hit, too. The animation style of the Appleseed movies is totally fresh to anything else on the market.

So where do you get the legit stuff from? People's collections?
ProfWeasel - August 14, 2008 08:01 PM (GMT)
Usually. On occasion we will get titles as freebies from companies or donations to the club.

Ah. I guess I should go figure out what I have in my collection that'd be interesting to show.

Well even if it is something that you are just interested in you can post the suggestion and we will sort out who has what later.
Bai Shen - August 17, 2008 12:03 AM (GMT)
Well, if I thought I'd make the meetings with any regularity I'd worry 'bout that. :)
