Description: Yay for noobs XP

NeonFox - June 26, 2008 03:35 PM (GMT)
So hi everyone who decides to read my lovely post here in the introduction area.
My name is Heather Harvey, I'm an incoming Freshman this fall to ODU and a friend of mine stumbled onto this forum for me and sent me the link. I think it's great that you have an anime club at a college, that and I was Vice President at a time (before soccer season started) in my Highschool's anime club. ^^
I love to draw (I do a lot of anthro work though), I love to cook, I play soccer and occasionally Fence (though I'd love to learn Muai Tai)... I'm a very outgoing person and once I get to know a person better I guess I'm quite funny. I LOVE to make new friends and hang out, I am trying to get back into the swing of cosplaying since I haven't been able to make it to Katsucon or Otakon for the past year b/c of school or lack of money. :(
Anywho, enough of what seems like a personal ad... If any of you are going to be at Freshman PREVIEW on the 27th of June, I'll be there!
I'm hoping to major in Communications and either work with the CIA/FBI or tone it down a bit and work for the ASPCA...so something in law enforcement.

BTW, don't kill me or anything for asking this...but are there any furries at ODU?
Cause I'm not a big one or anything, but was just wondering...

Ryto - June 26, 2008 04:58 PM (GMT)
Welcome to the forums!

I really wish I had had a good anime club when I was in High School. An anime club didn't even exist at my school until over halfway through my Senior year. >.< Our first meeting was very crowded. At least 50 people crammed into a tiny classroom. Then the next meeting was like a month later, at our public library. There were maybe 20 people there. And then the last meeting I went to, there were only three people besides me. We waited a little bit to see if anyone else would come, but then we all decided to go to one of the people's houses. We watched Last Exile and played video games....I guess it was fun, but the ODU anime club is so much better. Apparently the club's a lot better these days, cause now my brother is in the club.

That major sounds interesting. It sounds like something I wold like to do, if it weren't for my laziness, which is why my major is Electrical Engineering Technology. I really don't usually have to think when I'm doing that kind of stuff.

Also, I am not one myself, but there are a few furries here.

Shiya - June 26, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
I'd like to say that we'll be going to your freshman preview, but ODU limited the dates of the freshman preview about a month ago and eliminated yours. And now it seems like they've expanded them again without letting us know. *sigh* I just e-mailed the lady who's in charge of the previews to ask about it, so hopefully she gets back to me in time, because otherwise I have no idea if we're allowed to be at those previews or not.

Though, thank you for telling us about your unlisted date! I know it was unintentional, but you've let me know about an, uhm, OVERSIGHT on the university's part. 9_9

NeonFox - June 26, 2008 06:10 PM (GMT)
Yeah, we were all crammed into our oceanorgraphy teacher's classroom, but he's an uber nerd and freakin awesome (cause he plays D&D and watches anime alot.) We were actually more organized this year before I had to leave, and most of the kids knew me as the 'muscle' of the club...since you know how it is with tons of HS freshman doped up on energy drinks and too much free time (that and ADD ^^ ) But we had lots of cosplay parties, where we mostly had gaming tournaments and actual Japanese food, since some of our members were actually Japanese (we were so fortunate for that  ) And I and some others got together and tried to teach people how to draw. XD

As for ODU's lack of getting info out, that seems to be a problem with any school you go to whether it be HS or College...and if it deals with an anime club. It seems that schools don't know how to take us seriously or what we like seriously. But hey, if I see you out there I'll make it a point to stop by and say hello.

fightingcomet - June 26, 2008 06:32 PM (GMT)
HI PERSON =D

Welcome to the forums~ We never had an anime club at my high school. There was very little interest.

And I know of three furries, not including you. o3o

Shiya - June 26, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
Yeah, furries aren't that big of a deal to anime club. n_n I mean, if you are, you are, if you're not, you're not. No one will judge you either way, or face the wrath of MISTRESS PRESIDENT! *flexes tiny muscles threateningly*

Well. I'm probably going to go up tomorrow regardless of whatever else happens, so if clubs are allowed inside, I'll be there! :D

NeonFox - June 26, 2008 06:51 PM (GMT)
Sweet, sweet! Well I'm hoping to get most of my classes signed up for tomorrow and figuring out what I need for my dorm... (though getting your wisdom teeth taken out a few days before doesn't help, since I kinda look like a chipmonk now <_< )

Ryto - June 26, 2008 07:04 PM (GMT)
Hey, my high school anime club I think started in the oceanography class.....

And I saw your picture in your profile. You look like someone there. I don't suppose you went to Woodbridge Senior High School, did you?

liltiger - June 26, 2008 07:13 PM (GMT)
hi, welcome to the forum and enventually the club. wish the club didnt screw us up like that. if i know about the preview date tomorrow then i would have reschedule my interview date. But that is too late now, well hopefully we can get in tomorrow and good luck to the club with recruitment.

Ryto - June 26, 2008 07:18 PM (GMT)
Awesome, another Viking. Only one other person (besides me) from Woodbridge actually joined the anime club here.

Shiya - June 26, 2008 07:23 PM (GMT)
See, that's just not fair. I don't know anyone at AC from high school. =[ Oh, well~

NeonFox - June 26, 2008 07:40 PM (GMT)
Haha... us Woodbridge kids come in bundles to ODU, it's like you select us from Costco or something and we just get shipped.

Good_Night_Moon - June 26, 2008 09:18 PM (GMT)

liltiger - June 26, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)
ehh, my friends are up in D.C. so the likely hood of them being down here in ODU is slim especially in A.C.

SinRaeyan - June 26, 2008 10:11 PM (GMT)
Hi hi!!! Nice to meet you! I am the president of ODU Out and a proud member of ODUAC. Just thought that I would say hi and tell you that there is also a fencing club too!

Ecnelis - June 26, 2008 11:21 PM (GMT)
Welcome to the club.

We have Anime, Furries, and I do photography myself Ye Olde Crappy Photos lay here and Soccer rocks ^_^...sadly I never played myself.

Katie: I hope you are advertising the Anime club with ODU OUT as much as you are advertising ODU OUT here on ODUAC :P

Syaoran - June 26, 2008 11:42 PM (GMT)
Hey, welcome to nerd central (watch your back). Jk jk. Seriously though, The anime club is really cool. everyone's mostly nice (except for some of the girls with it's that time of the month, but you already know about that). Oh, and there is a fencing club (I'm in it). Here's a link to their site (don't hurt me people): http://odufc.org/. Honestly, though, this forum is much more fun. I'd only check the fencing one for info and dates. Then again, I only go to that club once a week (they meet a lot). But yeah, welcome. And please don't bite me!

Ecnelis - June 26, 2008 11:45 PM (GMT)
P.S.: Forgot to add this. If you're really into swordplay and think you have enough stamina and discipline you should try ODU Martial Arts, especially Kendo ^_^ We have a great instructor and students in it. Very fun, Very tiring, Very Worth it if you have the discipline.

Syaoran - June 27, 2008 12:08 AM (GMT)
I didn't like Kendo too much (although I did get appendicitis right in the middle of it soooo....) But they have more weapons classes and Iaido (samuri style, baby! (at least, that's what the teach said)).

Ecnelis - June 27, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)
You have to take a few other classes before you can take Iaido I think. But kendo is really good. ^_^

NeonFox - June 27, 2008 12:54 AM (GMT)
Wow, thanks for all the tips and other clubs for me to look at too, though I know I'm pretty sure I'll join anime first. ^_^
Umm, as for ODU Martial Arts, if I don't make the soccer team I might look into that for keeping up with being active and whatnot. I tried out Muai Tai with a friend b/c she did it all the time and I really enjoyed it, and I'm pretty sure discipline isn't a problem.
Do they actually teach the styles there?

liltiger - June 27, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
no, we do not have that. the styles we have at ODU are: kendo, karatado, aikido, judo, iaido, kabuto...umm, i believe that is all.

i am a brown belt at aikido so if you have any question about it, feel free to ask me :). John "Ecnelis" done kendo, katie SinRaeyan" does kabuto.

SinRaeyan - June 27, 2008 04:11 AM (GMT)
KOBUDO!!!!!!!! JOIN IT!!!!!! I have also done Kendo too. But Kobudo is weaponry training. It is amazing!!!

We had an anime club at my high school...oddly enough David Belber was president of that one too haha. Also where I met most of the Flips that play Smash.

We were too, must be something nerdy bout oceanography teachers.

:offtopic:

Hi, Heather.

liltiger - June 27, 2008 01:37 PM (GMT)
lol, katie. we are here to give info not to pressue them into taking the class. beside, i dont think we need another injured person for kobudo, :P. Technically, if you have done a style of martial art long enough, you would think it is amazing. I think she can decide on it if she saw a small demo of each one.

Art1st4786 - June 27, 2008 04:33 PM (GMT)
Hey, Heather. Welcome to the ODU Anime club!

Yay! Another artist! I actually just looked at your DA account and added you to my friend's list (if that's okay). Your stuff's cool ^-^

Good luck getting on the soccer team! I'm sure you'll do fine.

If you have any other questions about the university or stuff in general, feel free to ask me. I'm going on my fifth year here (art majors, we never graduate), and I'm involved in a million things on campus.

By the way, in one of your pictures, I saw that your school colors were green and gold. Where did you go to high school?

Ryto - June 27, 2008 04:46 PM (GMT)
Green and Gold! Go Vikings!

....okay, enough fake school spirit.

She went to my high school. Woodbridge Senior High School, up here, obviously, in Woodbridge. XD

Hey there! Welcome to ODU! Hope You enjoy your Freshman year! You will really like The Anime Club here! Everyone in it is really nice. Last year was my freshman year and they made me feel right at home.

Shiya - June 28, 2008 03:28 AM (GMT)
You were at the preview, today! :D I hope I didn't scare you away.

(( For everyone following along at home, I ranted about our budget for like 10 minutes. Hahaha. Ha. >_> I blame the heat! It got to my head! ))

NeonFox - June 28, 2008 05:14 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I was at teh PREVIEW... I think I almost wanted to kill myself walking through all the Frats/Sororities
(I was thinking on joining a S. but when I saw the girls I was like "WTF ._." I think Frats are more my style...JK JK)
But's it's all good about ranting and getting it mostly out, since you don't want to kill anyone and go to jail. ^_^
...as for the Martial Arts, I picked up a flyer and was gonna look into it possibly.
AAAANNNNDDDD
I signed up for my classes this semester and modified them to fit around Anime Club, yay me, though my stupid Communication class kept getting in the way and I had to flip-flop my math class...so it all works now :D

...i think that's most of it...

Shiya - June 28, 2008 05:49 PM (GMT)
Hahaha, I'm glad. Yeah, the Greeks are special, but they're actually not too bad all around, at least in my experience. Like, they're friendly and they talk to us and all, rather than being snooty jerks. n_n;

Sweet, more people to talk soccer to!
Anywho, I try to watch it as much as I can, but Manchester United is my team for the UK...and I'm partial to D.C. United since I know most of the GKs on the team and have trained with them.
