Title: My First Meeting
Description: Veterans Tell your tale!

Ecnelis - July 20, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
So, in August ODU will start up its classes once more, and once more Anime Club will start to have its meetings. To give the new members something to look forward to, I invite those that do go to the Meetings to post about what their first meeting was like if they remember and to give the newcomers some welcoming advice.

My first meeting I went to, I believe David was President then, I was a bit nervous about the whole affair. I really didn't know much about anime and was a little scared that it would mean no one would like me or I wouldn't understand anything people were talking about. But, I got to know that mainly the club is for all levels of anime geek. I didn't have to know anything about anime, just sit down watch some or go and play games with the other members. I truly did find some great people whose humour, gaming ability, and personality's made for a welcoming club. So, I guess my first anime club meeting started a bit nervous and ended on a high note.

My advice to those that come to anime club for the first time is this. You may come in and see a large group of people who already have friends. You might feel like you won't be able to get into any of the already made groups of people, but that is simply not true. We'll get to know you, and you will get to know us. It'll happen eventually, and not surprisingly it may happen on the first meeting. So, I hope you have fun your first meeting and not worry much about making friends. I assure you it will happen fast enough ^_^

Uhm, my first anime club meeting was, like, in the middle of the fall semester. I actually almost didn't join because of what someone said, but I'm so, so glad I did. <3

Yeah, it's kinda awkward to walk into a room full of people that already know each other, but new members, don't fret! It's pretty easy to get to know people, and once you do, the meetings are even more fun~! =D

and you should give me a hug if you see me, I like hugs. ;x

Lets see. My first meeting, I was kind of quiet. I don't remember much of it. I just knew that I wanted to be a part of the club and tried to make friends.

My first meeting was last year. I showed up early for some reason... There were a few new people there too. Some words would be said, but not much. Then Arnel (did I spell it right? sorry if I didn't!) came in and said, "Alright everyone, I'm the President." Then whispered, "At least until the real one's show up." Well, people started to come in slowly until the place had a good bit of people in it. TVs were brought in and Will started setting up the projector. Then the heads came in. Ton was late, I think. They talked, but I don't remember paying attention. I was talking occasionally to the girls behind me. I do remember that Jimmy was up front and that he "doesn't do anything, he's just there." Then someone else talked and I wondered, "Is that a guy?... Nooooo, it's a girl, right? No no no, it's definately a guy." Found out later that Eli is indeed a guy. Other than that, I just remember wandering around not talking to too many people, just checking everything out.

Advice: Talk to people when you feel comfortable. Don't worry, people will talk to you. Whether you want to or not... And if you're tickled, scream bloody murder or try to run, fast.

I actually had two first meetings, hahaha. One was like four years ago, and I don't really remember it. But then I came back during the fall last year, and it was like doing it all over again 'cause I didn't really know anybody, haha. But it was pretty cool... I talked to some of the other new kids, hung out with everybody, harassed people, heckled the officers...

And, if you ever have any doubts about fitting in as a new kid... I was new last year, and now I'm the president. So you'll definitely get folded right into the crowd if you put yourself out there! :D

My first meeting was the one before spring break in 07, it was fine, I did the same thing at the first meeting I did at my first con, hang out in the game room, it is alot easier to start socializing in a game room than an anime room, especially since I am a person who like to hear anime. I also had to decide whether or not to come back and I did, heck I joined these forums before going to a meeting to get an answer questioned(let's see if I can find the link) so I had fun and 2 weeks later I came back. Really I just joined to find out if you were going to do another con.
Talking to you guys in line for guest uncensored 2 years back at Nekocon helped though.

My first meeting... Oh yes, it was fall of 06 I believe. Didn't really do much except do a meet and greet and if I remember that day we were only able to watch anime. Law of Ueki methinks it was. But later during the meeting we were able to play DDR, that just about made my day!

Anywho, although I no longer attend ODU, I certainly did enjoy my experiences and memories that I've gained there at ODU.

Oh, and by the way... Viva la Neo Anime Club of ODU! *now waits to see if anyone actually got that last bit* >_> <_<

My first meeting was back in the fall of 2004 (I know, that was, like, forever ago). I was one of the few females at the time, and I remember walking in wearing a Zelda shirt, my Triforce earrings, and my Nintendo belt-buckle. I got a lot of attention, being a girl gamer.

What really drew me into the club was the sense of community that I got. I was able to be myself with everyone, joke around and make new friends. I felt at home.

My advice to the newcomers is don't be afraid to talk to people and make new friends. Even though we may go crazy once in a while, and we may get glued to Smash one too many times, we're still friendly, fun-loving people.

.......okay, we go crazy a lot. But don't let that scare you :shhh:

well my first meeting was about the same as Ecnelis (both the timing and the experience) though the difference being that i took a bit longer than one meeting to completely take to the club.. once you get to know a few people the meetings will feel more comfortable.. (yes the people in the club are pretty easy to get to know..)

sorry but I don't think I can offer any further advice than what the others have already suggested.. O.o
