Description: help, please

Syaoran - July 21, 2008 07:04 PM (GMT)
I'm trying to write a resume. I had some notes on how to make one and what not, but I can't find it. Help, please?

Your Name and Contact Information
Include Home Phone and Cell. Email and Physical Address.

Purpose: What are you trying to get with this resume? (I.E. Cashier at storename)

Skills: Related to the position you are trying to obtain. Typing, computer skills, software familiar with, etc.

Past Work/Volunteer Positions Held
-Include names of employers, contact information, and job responsibilities

Education
-High School Diploma, Awards Received, Years in college, Vocational Studies, Trades

Extracurricular Activities: Fencing, Anime Club, Church Group, etc

A Small Tip for interviews-Be prepared to describe yourself in 1-3 words. For an example, What I use is Reliable, Responsible, and Irreplaceable. And be able to back up your choices.

Hope that helps

Scary, I agree with Ecnelis. Although I have to ask, what kind of job are you applying for? Some jobs are all about the resume, and some don't care.

My biggest piece of job hunting advice? Hit up your friends. A lot of times it's more about who you know then what you know.

Another helpful piece of advice for job interviews: have some questions to ask your interviewer, as well. It shows them that you truly are interested in the position and that you're also outgoing.

Well, I wanna work in a book store. But I would like to get a job at a country club playing the piano, but all the places I checked aren't looking for one atm. I'll keep looking for that, though. But I just want something that involves books, since that's where most of my money is gonna go anyways. Unless if I work at a clothes store and get a discount, that'd be nice (clothes... *_* ). But right now I'm mostly gonna try for Barnes & Noble. But that's still not gonna be the only place I send my resume.

Thanks for the tips so far guys!

AFAIK, B&N is pretty picky about who they hire. You might want to look into some used bookstores as well.

However, I wouldn't get hung up on only working at a bookstore. It's always nice to work someplace you enjoy, but that doesn't happen all the time.

Also, you should send out a lot of applications. Job hunting usually has a low return. So even if you're not sure you want the job or whatnot, send in an application anyways.

Only bookstores. Maybe a cafe... But that's it. Besides, there are a lot of bookstores. (I'm stubborn as to where I work >.> )
