Title: Workshops?!

Shiya - August 14, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
So as many of you may... or may not >_>... remember, we've been contemplating for a while adding workshops to the weekly meeting schedule. However, there was a debate over whether the anime room or the game room should sacrifice their space for it.

Well I, <s>the Mistress of All Things</s> your Humble President, have come up with a solution by reserving a third room! Admittedly, I have a bad case of the dumb and thus did it like, mid-summer, months after the preregistration for rooms was over... so we only have a third room 2/3's of the time. Still! Since we wanted to do this on a trial basis, that's probably a good thing!

ANYWAY!!

The days we have a third room are...
September 4, 11, 18
October 16, 23
November 6, 13
December 4

Why am I blathering on about this here? Because we need ideas and such for workshops! For example, since the November 6th one was the Thursday before Nekocon, and people have expressed interest in cat ear headbands and such... why not have a minor cosplay accessory workshop?? Like, you bring your own fabric to make ears and a tail the way you want them, and we'll teach you how to make 'em! We have four hours, and that's plenty of time to hand-sew the perfect anthro ear/tail combo. Depending on interest we could maybe do other things, such as sew wings to the backs of shirts (( Think Rinoa! )), make those cute EGL bonnet things... whatever minor cosplay accessory you want!

Soooo that's my idea! You guys' turn. What do you think? NOTE:: Though I'm accepting all ideas since we don't necessarily have to use them, please keep them within the bounds of reality. AKA nothing that costs over $10 per person or so, nothing against ODU rules, nothing that bends/breaks the laws of Physics... you know. The little things. ;D

How about a workshop to learn how to write Kanji.

Any other ideas for workshops, you can always look at a programming guide for some conventions. There are workshops listed in them.

I know we're having a sewing party, but if you want a sewing workshop for those who don't know how, I could help, if you want.

I think a sewing/costume workshop would be awesome, as well as one about Japanese (the language and writing, etc), and one about art would be pretty fun, too.

*dances*

Edit: Jess, people should probably pitch their idea and sign up for a date if they're interested, so we can know early and people can get everything ready on time for it and make sure there's no time conflict/outside inconveniences.

Well, outside of the first meeting on the 4th, I'm probably going to get people to pitch their ideas/sign up in person, just because I feel like I can rely on it more if they sign up for it in person.

BUT.

If you're interested in actually RUNNING, or HELPING RUN, a workshop, feel free to say so here and then we'll bang out the details at a meeting! :D But if you'll need help running one of your ideas, or if you think it'd be a neat idea but don't know the first thing about it so it's up to someone else to run, make sure you say so in your posts, guys! :D

Alright, all of this semester's workshop spaces have been FILLED!

However, keep on submitting ideas! We have all of next semester to fill, after all~

So, here's what we're scheduled to be doing (( including the stuff we've already done, just for records' sake )):

Sept 4: Icebreakers
Sept 11: Drawing
Sept 18: Soul Calibur 4 Tournament

Oct 16: Sewing (( As far as I know you're learning the basic of sewing and how to follow patterns and such; no actual sewing will be done. I'll get more details, though. ))
Oct 23: Marketplace (( Sell all of your old anime junk and art and such, and get money for Nekocon to get NEW anime junk and art and such!! :D ))

Nov 6: Simple Cosplay Accessories (( Bring your own materials and such, and make simple sewn cosplay accessories with the help of our experienced sewing people! Make things like cat ears/tails or any other simple accessory that you think would take less than 2-4 hours. ))
Nov 13: Origami (( Learn how to make neat origami things! I believe that paper will be provided by the wonderful Rebecca. :D ))

Dec 4: Karaoke (( Celebrate the last meeting of the year with karaoke night! May include a karaoke competition and sing-alongs. ))

Wait, we're not gonna sew?

We're sewing for the simple cosplay accessories workshop, but for the actual sewing workshop... I don't *think* so. As I said, I have to check details with the person running it.
